Our Mission & Movement
Updates from June
Due in no small part to the sustained efforts of hundreds of BUILD leaders, repeated actions, and more, Baltimore City has taken a major step forward. In next year’s budget, immigrant services funding was doubled to $5 million, including $1.6 million added during budget negotiations.
That additional funding will be prioritized for legal support and mental health services — priorities that were repeatedly identified as important in listening sessions across BUILD.
Franklin Square is on the move. Thanks to the Franklin Square Community Organization and Southwest Partnership, an inner block park that we began working on last summer continues to improve and now serves as a safe gathering space for residents of all ages. Traffic calming measures designed by students next to Franklin Square Elementary/Middle School were also completed beautifully. Come check out the progress!
Big things are also happening in Coppin Heights. BUILD joined CCI, The 6th Branch, the Neighborhood Design Center, and Senator Antonio Hayes to clean and prepare a vacant lot that will eventually become a new inner-block park and green space. Stay tuned!
BUILD continues to grow its work in Baltimore County. Huge thanks to Journey of Faith for hosting about 20 leaders who dug into one-on-one meetings, the nuts and bolts of organizing, and so much more!
At the end of June, BUILD hosted its 3rd Money Party—and it was a powerful, fun celebration of what this community makes possible. Our leaders shared what BUILD means to them, invited supporters to get involved, and rallied together to move our mission forward.
